Staff Member Reva Sheppard

It is with a great deal of pleasure to introduce Reva Sheppard, the newest member of the staff at University Counseling Center. A graduate of Texas Wesleyan University’s Master of Arts in Professional Counseling, Reva brings to the Center a passion to treat each individual as a person, not a diagnosis. The focus of her mission is to assist those she counsels to recognize their value, and to help them to become empowered to become fully alive. She accomplishes this by addressing the problem that creates the problems; that is, the lack of understanding and utilizing the power residing in each person.

Reva’s emphasis is using brief therapy techniques, which focuses attention on solutions not problems. A major part of her University training is in Solution Focused Therapy. In addition to this she is also pursuing certification in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and TFT (Thought Field Therapy). Both of these therapies are especially effective for trauma and phobia issues, and are also used to help people move quickly past the negative thinking which sabotages them. Other problems addressed by these treatments are chronic pain management, anger management, and individual and couple communication problems.

Along with her training as a Licensed Profession Counselor, Reva also is a Licensed Vocational Nurse, and has received Certified Clinical Pastoral Education, and served as a hospital chaplain. This training has helped her to keep in perspective the treating of the whole person; mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Her training, and the wisdom, which comes from raising three children, serving as a bank officer, and teaching high school students, has uniquely qualified her to counsel young children through adults, and a wide variety of issues.
